Non-Commercial Biotoxin sampling plays an important role to ensure that recreational harvesting of shellfish poses no risk of poisoning to the consumer. NZBSL undertakes water and flesh samples on behalf of MPI across Northland, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Wellington and Christchurch.

NZBSL undertake the surveillance and control of Unwanted Organism Cape Tulip annually across Portland Island. The island is accessible by helicopter and requires the team to bunk down in the shearer shed

Velvet leaf is an agricultural pest plant with the potential to change soil structure and impact on the success of some of our primary crops. NZBSL has been involved in both surveillance and control programmes for this pest plant on behalf of Auckland Council and MPI.
