When the initial PSA outbreak occurred our trained Quarantine Staff were asked to be a part of the national response team.
We visited kiwifruit orchards and undertook surveys of all vines to check for signs of the disease. Vegetation samples were taken and sent to the laboratory for testing and if any vines were identified as infected, the land owner was contacted by the Ministry of Primary Industries and helped to manage the outbreak.
All of our staff used the highest quarantine procedures when entering and exiting a site to make sure that we did not introduce the disease to uninfected properties.
While the disease is largely managed, we are still called upon to help survey kiwifruit orchards across New Zealand, as required.
